Matthew is a seasoned public affairs expert with extensive experience in strategic communications and community engagement across diverse sectors, including infrastructure, technology, travel, energy and more. He is renowned for his ability to build coalitions to support controversial topics and work with diverse interest groups to find common ground.
In his role at the agency, Matthew has led numerous high-profile client projects. A notable achievement was his leadership in a multi-year campaign to pass San Diego’s short-term rental ordinance, involving comprehensive government outreach, political campaigns, fundraising and community engagement. Previously, Matthew worked as a strategic communications manager at Sempra, a Fortune 300 energy infrastructure company, where he developed and executed the company’s sustainability communications as well as managed the company’s relationship with the World Economic Forum. Earlier in his career, at Tom Shepard & Associates, he ran several successful political campaigns and ballot measures, honing his skills in public affairs and strategic communications.
Matthew received a degree in political science from the University of California in Santa Barbara, before earning a master’s degree in management from the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus. He is an expert in government relations and communications, named one of San Diego’s 40 Brightest Young Leaders Under 40 by SD METRO and one of San Diego’s 40 Next Top Business Leaders Under 40 by the San Diego Business Journal.
